Mary Lincoln’s relationship with her children is explored in this short book. Springfield neighbor’s recollections and Mary’s own words are used to show how she related to her children, how she viewed marriage and motherhood, and how she dealt with her grief at the death of her sons.

This was a remarkable story of Mary Lincoln as a happy wife and mother. Much has been written of her as a depressed woman and antisocial. She adored her family. Abraham was gentle and loving as her husband. When her family was all together, nothing could have made her happier. But those days were darkened by the deaths of two of her boys and the assassination of her beloved husband. After these sad episodes, it was easy to understand why her sadness was inconsolable. She had deep feelings for everything she experienced throughout her life. She did take her life hard, often inconsolable, which many never understood. It was bearable with her husband's loving care but with him gone forever in such an unforgivable manner, it was difficult for her to accept. To recover she did much good for the veterans, helping them, making and providing gifts to please them, all which the public had no knowledge of. I liked what I read about Mary Lincoln and better understood what our beloved Abraham saw that attracted her to him.

Mary Lincoln as a Wife and Mother eBook Rachael Koncel Reviews

This was an excellent synopsis on Mary Lincoln. It told it all in a very short and excellent read. What a character!
I enjoyed the positive slant on Mary as mother. We depend so much space on Abraham and forget the role of the most important person in his life.
I was hoping this was a book. This is clearly a booklet.....ok but not fabulous. Worth a five minute look....
Interesting and easy to read. I could not put it down.
This should have been a article, not a book. Way too little information. And way too little character building. Waste of time.
My review would have been higher had I realized that the book, although correct on an historical basis, was written on an elementary school level.

A slightly better editing program could have been utilized, (e.g., "loose" for "lose," but that may be nickpicky in this day and age.
Love anything Lincoln? You'll absolutely love this book! This covers Mary from when our beloved Forefather met her to her without him..her bereavement of losing children to the great love of living with them. A must read!
